When you are an artist like Nelson you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night with new designs and ideas that look like they might have come from an extra-terrestrial being instead of a person born and raised in Columbus Ohio.
These special pieces are in Nelson's personal collection. Each time he gazes at them he is reminded of the middle of the night images that prompted him to make the design and it gives him great joy.

Making a piece with many segments and most with curves is challenging. This piece exhibits the depth of Nelson's talent and patience.
Nelson was inspired by a print by the Native American Indian artist, Blue Corn titled The Four Corners of the Feather Plate. This is part of Nelson's private collection.
When Nelson found out he had macular degeneration of his eyes he become obsessed with the possibility that he would be going blind and would not be able to do his detailed work with wood. FACES is his testament to his pain with its focus on eyes.
